I once asked Neil Gaiman--a writer of some repute--what was one thing that I should know as a writer. The one thing that should not be forgotten. The one rule above all else.
"Talk in your own voice," he said.
It's something I've taken to heart. And it gives me a pervy kind of joy to be able to that litterally, now, 10 years later. I am talking in my voice, reading things written in my own voice.
