The Far North as you have never seen it: the stories and music of the people, the Inuit and the Saami, who live on the roof of the world. At the heart of it are the caribou and the reindeer whose journey reveals the majestic Arctic landscape.
Great North
The tranquil beaches of New Zealand's Far North, complete with small coves.
Far North Beaches: New Zealand
"Once upon a time, two brothers from a tiny town in the far north of England, set out to make fishing tackle. Their wares captured more than just fish. Soon they had won the hearts and minds of fishing maharajahs, film stars and royalty the world over. Their names were William and JJ Hardy.
With their genius, devotion, and innovative marketing they would conquer the world. They grew an army of craftsmen and the family firm of Hardy's has been synonymous with the best in fishing ever since. That was more than 130 years ago and how the world has changed!
Today “Mister Jim” is how the employees address Jim Hardy, last of the family to work for Hardy's and now retired. Take an incredible journey with Mr. Jim back over a golden era of angling, using unbelievable film from the Hardy archives over nearly a century, when rivers really did seem stuffed with salmon. Hear from the master craftsman and share their pride in a time and place when making handmade fishing tackle really was something special, something to celebrate. And then ponder the question, is this golden age really a lost world? Could it ever happen again..."

Once upon a time, in a land far, far north of center city Philadelphia, there lived a sketch comedy group named Secret Pants. They were not big, nor strong, but they shared a warm fondness for making others laugh, and a similar fondness for drinking and watching re-rums of Parker Lewis Can't Loose. Together, they created a sketch comedy website – www.secretpants.net - and created sketch comedy that has been described as "hilarious and ribald," "charming, endearing, and funny enough to get away with just about anything," but also "potentially offensive." From there, Secret Pants moved on to performing live in and around the city of Philadelphia, and they left a trail of sold-out venues in their wake. Most recently, Secret Pants' upcoming show at the North Star Bar on New Year's Eve was chosen by the CityPaper as the number-one "Thing To Do" on New Year's Eve if you're a "Frugal Alcoholic," and Secret Pants was awarded the "Funniest Sketch Group of the Year" by the students of Mrs. Bakersfield's eight grade class in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. That in itself should be reason enough for you to subscribe to this podcast.

Director Asif Kapadia discusses the making of Far North, a mesmerising and haunting tale of an isolated mother and daughter who encounter a stranger. Set against a barren arctic landscape, each one's vulnerabilities are left exposed as they fight for love, warmth and ultimately survival. The films stars BAFTA Award nominee Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings). Opened in theatres on December 26, 2008.
